Finished Valve Seat

The panhead-cylinder head is a green sand-cast aluminum part and is very porous by nature, and has a very high expansion coefficient. The original valve seat was cast into the head primarily due to the expansion factor. The panhead cylinder head was not designed to hold a pressed in steel seat. Due to the difference of the expansion coefficient of a steel seat and that of the aluminum head, the valve seat and the head expand at different rates, which causes the seat to loosen.

Our process was developed to duplicate the original integrity of the panhead valve seat, thus avoiding this failure. With our metallic overlay process and recutting of the seat, the valve seat is restored to factory specifications which restores not only the seat height, but it increases the valve spring pressure back to its original specification.
Unlike the presses in valve seat replacement techniques, the Head Hog procedure builds upon existing material. The original valve seats are secured within the factory casting of the cylinder head, rendering shifting, loosening or dislodging virtually impossible, regardless of how many previous valve jobs were done.
